A teaching based upon “Supernatural or Just Remarkable?” by Heart of G-d Ministries

  • Eternal people, eternal covenant, everlasting possession.
    • 17:1-8: According to the Abrahamic covenant: nations will come from you; covenant between you and your physical descendants forever; the whole land of Canaan will be your everlasting possession.
    • 31:31-37: New covenant will be different from the Mosaic covenant in that the Torah will be written on their hearts, they will all know Adonai, iniquity will be forgiven and not remembered any more. However, as permanent as the sun, moon, stars and waves, Israel’s offspring will continue to be a people, never to be cast off or replaced.
    • Mark Twain said, “All things are mortal, but the Jew. All other forces pass, but he remains. What is the secret of his immortality?”
  • Scattered throughout the earth and persecuted.
    • 28: 58-68 The promise of Adonai for disobeying the Torah and breaking the covenant found a dramatic fulfilment in A.D.70.
    • Moses’ prophesy here is a dismal description of the Diaspora which lasted almost 2000 years.
    • In almost every nation where the Jews have prospered they have been forced to flee due to persecution. The Jews have been expelled from over 80 different countries.
    • Even now, entire Christian denominations have removed “Israel” from their hymnals, and college campuses hold an anti-Israel week.
    • Leo Tolstoy said, “The Jew is the emblem of eternity. He whom neither slaughter, not torture of thousands of years could destroy, he whom neither fire, nor sword, nor inquisition was able to wipe off the face of the earth . . . The Jew is as everlasting as eternity itself.”
  • All the people of the earth will be blessed through you (Gen. 12:3).
    • Jews make up only 1/5 of 1% of the world’s population; however they have won over 20% of all Nobel Prizes.
      • In Medicine Jews have been responsible for: The pacemaker, several vaccines and antibiotics (Polio, penicillin and TB), local anaesthesia, technology used in MRI’s, chemo-therapy, the defibrillator, aspirin
      • In Technology: IM, Google; key technology used in radios, TV’s wireless telecomm and GPS; development of the mobile phone and solar power; color photography, remote controls, and virtual reality
      • In Agriculture: Haber process (food-related tech responsible for sustaining approx.. 33% of the world’s population), genetic engineering, drip irrigation
      • In Science: advances in DNA research, atomic structure, quantum mechanics
      • Other Inventions: Jeans, sewing machine, microphone, ballpoint pens, stainless steel, traffic lights
      • John Adams said, “I will insist that the Hebrews have done more to civilize men than any other Nation. They are the most glorious Nation that ever inhabited the earth . . . [They] have influenced the affairs of Mankind more, and more happily than any other Nation, ancient or modern.”
    • The Jewish people were called to be a light to the nations, a kingdom of priests and a chosen people to show the praises of Adonai (Ex. 19:5-6, Isa 42:6, 1 Pet. 5:9)
      • Have the Jewish people always demonstrated this perfectly? Of course not, but what would the world be without the Judeo-Christian values. The values of the Torah like: respect for life, human dignity, social justice, human rights, peace, education, property rights, honesty, etc.
      • Even in failure to fulfil this commission, did it change God’s covenant? Deut. 7:7-8
      • Indeed, Adonai does care for the whole earth: Isaiah 45:20-25, 49:5-8
    • Does Gen. 12:3 “I will bless those that bless you, and curse those who curse you” partially explain the rise and fall of empires?
      • Where are the nations that fought against Israel in ancient times? Hittites, Jebusites, Moabites, Ammorites?
      • Where are the empires that conquered the land of Israel? Egyptian, Assyrian, Babylonian, Persian, Greek, Roman, Islamic
      • The British Empire was favourable, and even paved the way for a Jewish national home (Balfour Declaration). Then after WWI & during WWII, it turned its back on the Jews, and between 1945 – 1965 British rule (outside the UK) decreased from 700 mil to 5 mil.
      • The Islamic Empire was greatly blessed during the Middle Ages, a time when the Jews found peace, security and respect. Recently, however, most of the Muslim world lags behind the rest of the world in almost every social, economic, and educational indicator, with the lowest national literacy, and highest poverty. Does this coincide with the obsession of these nations to destroy Israel in recent years?
      • Dennis Prager said recently, “The evidence historically and this very moment suggests that there is indeed a real connection between the state of a society and its treatment of the Jews . . . I am increasingly convinced that [G-d’s promise in Gen. 12:3] is verifiable true.”
    • How miraculous is the return of the Jews to the land of Israel?
      • There are over 60 times in the Hebrew Scriptures where Adonai promises to bring the people of Israel back to the land. i.e. Ezek. 11:17-21
      • The Hebrew Scriptures even specifically names where the Jews would return from: Egypt, Iraq, Syria (Isa. 27:13) Ethiopia and the “land of the north” (Isa. 11:11-12, Jer. 3:18) All of these have already happened.
      • The Hebrew Scriptures even predict how the Jews will return.
        • The Jews’ hearts will yearn to return to Zion. (Jer. 50:4-5)
        • The Jews will return due to persecution. (Isa. 27:13) Over 800,000 were forced to flee from Egypt, Iraq and Syria.
        • Some gentiles will help Jews return. (Isa. 49:22) Evangelical Christians have helped hundreds of thousands of Jews return to Israel.
      • It was prophesied in Isa. 66:7-8 that Israel would be reborn in a day. This was done on May 14, 1948. Of the Qumran documents, there is one entire scroll that was found intact, the Isaiah Scroll. It was found in what year? 1947.
      • It was prophesied in Zeph. 3:9 that the language of Hebrew would be revived. There is no other ancient, dead language that has ever been revived.
      • Adonai promised in Isa. 43:19-20 that He would send rain. According to a professional meteorologist for the British Royal Air Force, the rainfall in Israel increased over 2.5 times its original level from the beginning of Zionism until the mid-20th The highest rainfall for the entire period was in 1948.
      • In Eze. 6:14 Adonai said that the land would be completely desolate. Mark Twain, after touring the Land in 1867 wrote, it is “a desolate country … given over wholly to weeds,” “a desolation … hardly a tree or shrub anywhere … We never saw a human being on the whole route.”
    • Adonai promised that after the Jews return to their land, that they would prosper.
      • Adonai promised that after the Jews returned that the desert would blossom (Isa. 35:1). Today much of the land has been transformed and parts of the Negev are even used for producing vegetables, fruits, and flowers.
      • “I will rejoice over them to do them good.” (Jer. 32:41)
      • “I will multiply the fruit of your trees and the increase of your fields.” (Eze. 36:30)
      • “My cities will again overflow with prosperity.” (Zech. 1:17)
      • Although not perfect, out of nearly 200 countries Israel is ranked:
        • 17th in overall human development (combining all indicators).
        • 1st in “most resilient economy” ranking in the face of crises.
        • 2nd in percentage of adults with university or college degrees.
        • 7th in life expectancy at 81.6 years.
        • 27th in GDP per capita. Israel’s GDP has increased 523% since 1950 while absorbing about 3 mil immigrants.
        • Despite all the boycotts, Israel exported $89 bil in 2011.
      • Adonai predicted, “In the days to come Jacob will take root, Israel will bud and blossom and fill all the world with fruit.” (Isa. 27:6) Israel’s agriculture industry had increased over 16 fold since 1948, and is now one of the world’s leading fresh citrus fruit producers and exporters.
      • The “wealth of the nations” has come into Israel (Isa. 60:4-5). More Israeli companies are listed on NASDAQ that those of Europe, China and India combined. Israel attracts 30 times more venture capital per person than Europe.
    • Adonai promised to deliver Israel even though surrounded by enemies (Micah 4:11-13).
      • David Ben Gurion said, “A Jew who does not believe in miracles is not a realist.”
      • Israel is surrounded by 22 hostile nations that comprise over 670 times their land mass, and yet have won every major war since 1948.
      • In 1948 the new nation of Israel had a population of 600,000 and was immediately attacked by the surrounding nations having a total population of 45 million, a 1:75 ratio. The British had prohibited virtually all Jews from acquiring arms and military training, while at the same time training the surrounding Arab armies. Israel had no planes, tanks, heavy machine gun, artillery, armoured vehicles, anti-tank or anti-aircraft weapons. And yet . . . they won. Why?
      • In 1967 a coalition of the armies of Syria, Iraq, Jordan, and Egypt (funded by Saudi Arabia, Soviet Union , Kuwait and Algeria) attacked Israel with 465,000 troops, 2,800 tanks and 800 aircraft. Israel had no allies not even the USA. Yet in 6 days they won. Why? Even the secular Jew, Moshe Dayan quoted Psalm 118:23 to describe this miracle.
      • In 1973, the Yom Kippur war caught Israel by surprise, and the odds of survival were so low that Golda Meir considered suicide, and the cabinet drew up plans for a government in exile. Then at the last minute a fervently anti-Semitic President of the USA ,Nixon, decided to provide the largest airlift of arms since WWII to save Israel. Why?
      • Are any of these wars, let alone all of them, explainable simply by the brave Israeli soldiers? I recommend a documentary called “Against All Odds” for more info.
      • Is it possible that the same G-d of Israel who brought about miraculous victories and deliverances for his people in the Bible is still working on their behalf?
    • Summary:
      • The children of Abraham are an eternal people. (Gen. 17:7, Jer. 31:35-37)
      • Because of disobedience, the Jews would be scattered throughout the earth. (Deut. 28:64)
      • And persecuted. (Deut. 28:65-66)
      • Yet somehow all of the peoples of the earth will be blessed through the Jews (Gen 12:3)
      • Moreover Adonai promised that He would bless those that bless the Jews, and curse those who curse. (Gen. 12:3)
      • After a long exile, the Jews would be miraculously returned from the four quarters of the earth to the Land that was promised. (Isa. 11:12)
      • How would they get back? Because of a deep longing (Jer. 50:4-5), due to persecution (Isa. 27:13), and with the help of Gentiles (Isa. 49:22).
      • Once back in the Land, Israel would be reborn as a nation (Isa. 66:7-8), supernaturally provided with water (Isa. 43:19-20), the desert would blossom (Eze. 36:35, Isa. 35:1), the Jews would prosper in the Land (Eze. 36:30, Zech. 1:17), and miraculously survive (Mic. 4:11-13)
    • So what is the conclusion from all this?
      • Blaise Pascal, in the 17th century was asked by King Louis XIV for evidence of the supernatural. He said, “Why, the Jews, your Majesty – the Jews.”
      • Adonai, knowing the end from the beginning, predicted all of this, in detail, in the Hebrew Scriptures. So that when we would see His promises fulfilled before our very eyes, as we are seeing today, we could know that it was He who orchestrated these things.
      • This is Adonai of Israel, “The L-rd, the L-rd, the compassionate and gracious G-d, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining mercy to thousands, and forgiving wickedess, rebellion and sin. Yet He does not leave the guilty unpunished . . .” (Ex. 34:6-7)
      • So why is Israel not perfect yet?
        • Because the problem in Israel is the same problem in every person’s heart. Sin.
        • This is why He says in Eze. 36:16-38 that He was bring the Jews back to the Land, not because of their own righteousness, but because of His faithfulness. Read, Eze. 36:24-38
        • Zechariah 12:10 “Then I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication, when they will look toward Me whom they pierced.[a] They will mourn for him as one mourns for an only son and grieve bitterly for him, as one grieves for a firstborn.”
